The settlement of Scofie
The former peasant settlement, now fully urbanized, is located on a low pass between Kaštelir (244 m) in the west and Tinjan (374 m) in the east, also called Škofijski prag. The highway, the "old road" and the narrow-gage railroad from Porečanka, which was interrupted in 1935, were built on a strip 50 to 200 m wide. The highway was built only a few years ago, and the old road certainly has traces of prehistory, because it was protected by fortifications on the two surrounding hills. Along this old road, which connected Trieste and Koper, a settlement developed, which also includes the surrounding hamlets of Buža, Fortec, Moretini, Reber and Risoti, as well as Valmarin along the river Rižana. Further up to the east is Zgornje Škofije, an independent settlement.
